Honestly, as I’m typing out this blog on comparison, I’m comparing myself.
I’m not as talented as this person, I don’t have a platform like this person, I’m not as good looking as this person, I’m not as creative as this person, I’m not as bubbly, not as outgoing, not as bold, not as selfless, not as stylish.
I’m not in this stage of life or I don’t have that job or I don’t have it together.
I really think if we’re honest with ourselves, most of us go through this.
Personally… COMPARISON. EATS. ME. UP.
But friends, the Bible speaks against comparison: “For we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves with those who commend themselves. But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.” 2 Cor. 10:12
NOT WISE.
Comparison holds me back from celebrating others because I envy. Comparison holds me back from my purpose because I spend too much time thinking about others’ successes but, more destructively, my own inadequacies — making me feel lesser-than and hopeless. Comparison breeds discontentment causing me to be dissatisfied with who I am.
@camrynmglackin summed it up saying, “the cost of comparison: pride & insecurity.”

Summed up, comparison tears me down and it tears down my relationships with others as I grow in jealousy rather than love.
Camryn continues, “the cure? 1. Recognize your universal calling (to keep your eyes on JESUS) 2. Recognize your unique calling (whatever it is the Lord has created ONLY you to do right where you are).”
Friends, you are unique. Only YOU are YOU. And only I am me.
Yes, we all feed off of each other and have similarities, but, at the end of the day, there is not a soul on this earth EXACTLY like you or me.
No one has your combination of skills and heart and mindset and struggles.

No one has your combination of skills and heart and mindset and struggles.
If we compare ourselves with others who are different and have different paths than us, even if they are similar paths, we lose our own path, our own self worth.
God created you with a PURPOSE. That purpose is not someone else’s purpose.
A bit ago, @legitsadierob posted about comparison saying “When you are all chasing Him and the passion and dreams God has put inside of you individually there is NO ROOM for comparison, because everyone is running to what HE has for them.”

When we realize only we are we and no one else can be (unintentional rhyme) THEN we can applaud others for being THEM. THEN we can stop comparing our unique and irreplaceable selves with others.
