God is a promise maker, not a promise breaker.
Promises are so easily broken. Even the most intentional, legally-binding, or emotionally-invested promises get broken.
I think this is why when I read a promise that God makes to me, I sometimes tend to not accept it full on. I find myself thinking that there have to be ifs, buts and loopholes to certain promises.
But a lot of promises are like gifts, we have to accept them to really have them impact our lives.
Someone can promise to protect us, but if we don’t believe them, we’ll be constantly on our guard.
They promised, but if we don’t embrace promises, we’ll go through life not being at peace believing the promise. We’ll go through life in fear – almost as if, from our perspective, we don’t have the promise at all.
God promises to fight for me (Exodus 14:14).
God promises to renew my strength (Isaiah 40:31).
God promises to never stop loving me (Isaiah 54:10).
God promises me wisdom, when I ask Him (James 1:5).
God promises me an escape from temptation (1 Corinthians 10:13).
God promises me freedom (a promise that has shaken my world) (John 8:36).
God promises to make me new in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).
God promises to be with me (Deuteronomy 31:8).
God promises to be a refuge (Psalm 9:9).
God promises to be found by me, when I seek Him (Jeremiah 29:13).
God promises to save me, when I call on Him (Romans 10:9-10).
I found that I easily walk through life half-heartedly believing the promises GOD promises us.
But God makes PROMISES — covenants, assurances — and He does not break them. God makes promises, but, if I don’t embrace them and claim them, it’s almost as if I don’t receive it, even though He PROMISED. We may have reason to doubt people’s promises, but God does not break His promises. He’s the most faithful promise-maker.
“..and you know in your hearts and souls, all of you, that not one word has failed of all the good things that the LORD your God promised concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one of them has failed.” Joshua 23:14
Those promises are there to be claimed. Let’s claim them.
