Insecurities are a powerful thing. They can bring negative thoughts, negative moods and a negative self-image.
My own insecurities often arise because I feel like the things I am insecure about are portrayed in media as negative or not portrayed in media at all, and therefore my insecurities are seen as something unnatural or imperfect in society. We’re told, through ads and by people, to change those things we are insecure about: our physical “imperfections.”
But why? Who deemed some physical attributes imperfect and others perfect?
We try to change to something perfect, but we all have insecurities or “imperfections.” Even the people we think of as the most beautiful people have insecurities.
I don’t know a single person without insecurities.
But still we’re inundated with this idea that imperfections must be fixed maybe because of images of people, through media, that have great bodies, great hair, great skin and even great personalities.
Physical “imperfections” are normal. So, why do we, or at least I, see the things I am insecure about as unacceptable or in need of change, allowing the idea of beauty to be something that eliminates us all: perfection.
